Laser Treatment - this is the most effective form of freckle removal and there will also be the suggestion that tests are carried out on them to make sure that they are not cancerous. Once the freckles have been passed as safe for removal a ruby laser will be used to remove them. In this type of freckle removal a green light is shone on to the freckle and the pigment breaks down. This is a painless procedure as the only sensation will be a warm feeling as the laser touches the skin. For a few days afterwards the skin may feel a little bit crusty but that will not last.
Treatment with intense pulsed light - this is a system very similar to laser removal but it is better able to target the heat to very small areas. There can also be a little pain during this form of freckle removal as the light is aimed at the area below the skin. This can be combated to a point with the use of cooling agents. This is not a quick procedure as each treatment will last about 20 minutes and there will need to be a number of sessions over a 4-6 week period.
Chemical Peel - it is usually light skinned and fair haired people who are best suited to having their freckles removed with a chemical peel. The chemicals are placed onto small areas of the skin and a wound appears. As this heals new skin has covered the freckle that needed to be removed. It can be carried out in either a doctor's surgery or clinic.
